Y4C Executive Director teaching Sold Out Class at Jax Beach Brunch Haus
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 28, 2019
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Local nonprofit, Yoga 4 Change (Y4C), and Jax Beach Brunch Haus have partnered for an afternoon yoga class this Saturday, March 30 from 3-4p. The yoga class will be taught by Executive Director, Kathryn Thomas. Thomas founded Yoga 4 Change in 2014 and has actively taught for the organization since it’s inconception. This will be the first public class she has taught in over 6 months, and the event is sold out! Yoga 4 Change is non-profit organization that achieves meaningful change for veterans, those involved in the carceral system, at-hope youth, and those struggling with substance use. The organization’s purpose-driven yoga program marries yoga movements with thematic teachings that have been researched to significantly improve health, sleep quality, coping skills, forgiveness, self-compassion, emotional regulation, anger management, and post traumatic growth.
Jax Beach Brunch Haus (JBBH) owner, Dan Altman, combines his love of food and music to bring Jax Beach a special place to dine and feel at home. JBBH has been an avid supporter of Yoga 4 Change and the two have partnered in the past with great success. JBBH raised funds for Y4C in 2018 via drink specials and contributed to the organization’s sustainability. “We really value our local partnerships in Jacksonville. It’s motivating to be able to do our work alongside some really inspiring people in Jax who are living out their passions daily. To teach a yoga class for our community inside a local spot, that gives so much to the community, it will truly be a rewarding experience” says Breanna Tivvis, Community Director for Y4C.
JBBH is currently hosting an ongoing fundraiser through March 31 on two drink specials. For every specific drink purchased, JBBH will donate $1 to Y4C: The Butterfly and Dancing in the Moonlight. The Buttery is a refreshing iced tea, with buyer’s choice of milk, and haus made blue simple syrup. Dancing in the Moonlight is a delicious pineapple Stoli Crush vodka, a type of coconut rum, haus made lemonade, and blue simple syrup. JBBH created these specialty drinks specific for Y4C. The money raised from these drinks will be used to offset the cost of funding Veterans programs, which has recently been put on hold due to lack of funding. Y4C has offered weekly classes at the Veterans Affairs (VA) since its inception in 2014. “Because we have sold out this event, we are one step closer to restarting our 62 classes per year at our local VA. I know from experience that yoga helps veterans struggling with chronic pain, PTSD and the anxiety of leaving military service. I am grateful to be part of a community that believes in innovation and service!” – Kathryn Thomas, Executive Director for Y4C.
If the public was not able to purchase a ticket in time, but still want to contribute to the sustainability of Y4C programming – they can donate through the organization’s website (www.y4c.org/donate) or stop by Jax Beach Brunch Haus before March 31 and order one of the specialty drinks.
