South Florida– Yoga 4 Change, a nonprofit organization serving South Florida since 2019 by teaching trauma-informed yoga in schools, recovery centers, detox facilities and other nonprofit organizations, received $13,000 through the support of the Community Foundation of Broward. This generous grant was made possible by the following Funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Helene and William Shillington Fund and Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson and Peter Anderson Education Fund, which will allow Yoga 4 Change the opportunity to offer physical and mental health resources to the young women, ages 18-25, and staff members at the FLITE Center in Fort Lauderdale for one year through trauma-informed yoga classes.
Yoga 4 Change currently offers programs in partnership with 19 facilities in South Florida, 10 in Broward County, contracting about 16 yoga instructors.
“There has been a recent exponential growth of Yoga 4 Change programs in South Florida spanning Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. In Broward County alone, we’ve doubled our programming in Deerfield/Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Hollywood,” says Program Director, Alexandra Ramirez. “We are really grateful for the support from The Community Foundation of Broward and the ability to partner with an additional facility in the area.”
Yoga 4 Change will collect self-reported data from individuals who participate in class to receive feedback in real-time that shows the significant impact that the program has on decreasing stress level and physical pain, as well as improving mood.
