Danielle Rousseau, PhD, LMHC, RYT-500, serves as an Assistant Professor at Boston University and the Director of Research at Yoga 4 Change. She has a PhD in Criminology and Justice Policy and Women’s and Gender Studies (Northeastern University), a MA in Clinical Forensic Psychology (University of Denver), and a BA in Psychology (University of Vermont). Dr. Rousseau is a dedicated social justice researcher, practitioner, and advocate with extensive experience in trauma services and gender advocacy. Her professional expertise lies in trauma therapy, serving individuals in both carceral settings and the broader community. She has worked extensively in trauma response, rape crisis, and victim/survivor advocacy.
Her contributions to the field have earned her numerous awards and grants, including recognition for her work on trauma-informed interventions. Her scholarly work has been widely published in prestigious journals and books, and she is a sought-after speaker and trainer in her field. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Rousseau is a certified yoga teacher (RYT-500) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Her collaborations with yoga and mindfulness organizations, such as Yoga 4 Change, yogaHOPE, the Yoga Service Council, Sensory Enhanced Yoga, and the Open Spirit Center reflect her commitment to promoting justice and well-being. Dr. Rousseau is the editor and contributing author of Yoga and Resilience: Empowering Practices for Survivors of Sexual Trauma. She is a contributing author of Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System and Sensory-Enhanced Yoga for Self-Regulation and Trauma Healing. Dr. Rousseau joined the Y4C team in 2017.
